Wolfle, Bredahl Earn Co-Medalist Honors at Stanton Ridge in Amateur Qualifier
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. – On a hot and humid Monday at Stanton Ridge Golf & Country Club, Gage Wolfle and Mac Bredahl fired a 1-under 70 to earn medalist honors in the final qualifier for the 120th New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank. The low 14 players and ties qualified for the championship at Essex Fells Country Club on July 6-8.
20-year old Wolfle opened up with a blemish-free 3-under 33 on the front nine, highlighted by three birdies. On the back nine, Wolfle turned in a 2-over 37.
“When I stepped on the first tee, I knew my game plan,” explained Wolfle. “I didn’t try to force anything, I hit a lot of good quality shots and didn’t try to hit any shots I couldn’t hit.”
Bredahl, who plays out of Fairmount Country Club had an up-and-down front nine. In his opening nine, Bredahl carded an eagle, a pair of birdies, two bogeys and a double for an even-par 36. He then fired three consecutive birdies on No. 12, 13 and 14 en route to a 1-under 34 on the back.
“I kept it in play off the tee, which was big,” Bredahl said. “They were in-play, and in a spot where I could go at the pins. Overall, I played well, but a few three putts hurt my score.”
For the day, just three players shot even-par or better. Joey Lostumbo fired an even-par 71, finishing in third.
