Walsh Continues Steady Golf Season; Medals at Qualifier for 122nd Amateur Championship Presented by Provident Bank

KENILWORTH, N.J. - Stephen Walsh of Baltusrol Golf Club fired a 1-under-par 70 to claim medalist honors today in the fourth qualifying round for the 122st NJSGA Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.

Walsh had a clutch eagle on the 17th hole, which ultimately put him in the lead.

"It was kind of tight near the end, I was 1-over playing on the 17th. I knew I had a short par-4 and then the par 5 on the last, so I knew I could pick up one or two strokes and I ended up eagling 17," Walsh recalled. "I hit driver to eight feet of the hole, made eagle which was nice and then that made the last hole a bit more stress free.”

Walsh, 33, finished his front nine at 1-over (37), before carding a birdie and an eagle on the back nine.

“This is my first year playing in New Jersey tournaments," said Walsh. "I had a good run with Conor Casey in the Four-Ball. These qualifiers are always so stressfull, it's hard to get it done and so few get through. Then when you do, you get to enjoy the tournament. I'm lucky I've played Manasquan River quite a few times. It would mean the world to win one of these.”

Walsh and eight others at Galloping Hill advanced to the 122nd Amateur Championship at Manasquan River Golf Club on July 10-12.

The final qualifier for the event is June 15 at Basking Ridge Country Club in Basking Ridge.
