CLIFTON, N.J. – The LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup is headed to Upper Montclair Country Club from May 12-15, 2022. “Having the opportunity to honor the women who started the LPGA on our site and property, it’s something that we are honored in doing," said Charlie Dimpfl, Upper Montclair Country Club General Manager and COO. "When we look back at the history of Upper Montclair, we’re going to take great pride in saying we hosted the Founders Cup and helped grow the game of golf, especially among women’s golfers."
Upper Montclair boasts a 27-hole course, which was originally designed by acclaimed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, before a major course renovation was completed in the 1950’s by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
The private club then completed a course renovation project in 2011, aimed at reshaping and restoring all of the bunkers as well as installment of a new drainage and irrigation system.
Upper Montclair is well known for hosting over 20 professional golf tournaments in the past, including the LPGA Sybase Classic, LPGA Coca-Cola Classic, Cadillac NFL Classic (Champions Tour), Dow Jones Open, Thunderbird Classic and the LPGA Chrysler-Plymouth Classic.
The membership is eager to welcome the best of the best. “We’re really excited," conveyed Dan Hines, Upper Montclair President. "We feel we have a great golf course and facility to host an event like this. The entire membership is excited to show off our facility and our course and also play host to the greatest women’s golfers in the world.”
The 2022 Championship will be contested over the South and West 9s.
