SWAINTON, N.J. – The New Jersey State Golf Association is thrilled to announce the addition of Union League National as a member club of the NJSGA. Formerly Sand Barrens Golf Club, a public facility in Cape May County, was recently purchased by The Union League of Philadelphia and then transformed by Dana Fry and Jason Straka.
“There has been a buzz around Union League National ever since the purchase of Sand Barrens. All indications that the renovations have taken a really good golf course to another level,” said Rich Kennedy, Director, Handicapping & Membership Service. “We look forward to their members playing in the NJSGA Championships and Golf Days and to hopefully holding some great events in the future at UNL!”
The 27-hole course was designed by Michael Hurdzan and Fry in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since its recent renovation, the course has been modified into a unique and intriguing private club that has been since plastered all over social media accounts like Evan Schiller Photography, LinksGems and Golf Imagination.
There are three nines that make up Union League National, which are named after Civil War generals: Grant, Sherman and Meade.
Located along the Jersey Shore, Union League National is a property that delivers mounds, ridges, complexes and vegetation, creating a challenge for players of all calibers.
As apart of The Union League of Philadelphia family, which was founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln, the organization expanded into the golf realm in 2014. Along with Union League Golf Club National, the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Union League Liberty Hill (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) have joined as properties that also offer exceptional golf opportunities to its membership.
As an NJSGA member club, Union League National members will have full access to the NJSGA’s competitive schedule, educational and volunteer opportunities, and receive the NJSGA bi-weekly E-links newsletter and be mailed the quarterly NJ Golf magazine. Union League National Golf Club will be able to host NJSGA events, key staff will gain invitations to elite NJ golf educational and networking opportunities, and more.
