Ultimate Team Event is Back for 2020!
July 14, 2020 - The wildly popular NJSGA Ultimate Team Event is returning to Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, which will host the event for the third time on Monday, August 17.
The sixth Ultimate Team Event (UTE), which features two-man teams from clubs and courses around the state, was last held at the prestigious course in 2017. It took place at Hamilton Farm and Crystal Springs, respectively, the past two years.
“We are thrilled to return to Metedeconk National. It is one of New Jersey's premier clubs and its location in the middle of the state is very convenient. This 27-hole course is very challenging with its tight fairways and tough greens - as well as bunkers and fescue everywhere,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Membership Services.
“Metedeconk National has always been very supportive of the NJSGA - and we appreciate their support moreso this year. Their facilities set up nicely for a safe, and socially-distant event - so everyone can be comfortable. Also, the field is limited this year which will help in that aspect. Tee times will be spread out and teams will play all 27 holes,” Kennedy said.
The field will include 54 two-man teams, reduced from last year’s field of 72 teams. The UTE is a 27-hole, two-man team, net tournament which uses three different formats for each nine-hole round: Four-Ball, Pinehurst, and alternate shot. Tee times, at 10-minute intervals at the three differing nine-hole venues, begin at 8:30 a.m.
After each nine holes, golfers will be able to eat from a “grab-and-go” barbecue outside the clubhouse, which will include a continuous rotating menu of fine food.
Clubs and courses are encouraged to conduct a tournament to establish which team will participate in the UTE. It is up to the club to determine the method of selecting its team. A qualifier could be held or the club can designate the champions of an existing club event, such as a member-member, to be its representative team in the UTE.
“That is more in the spirit of the event,” Kennedy said. “We encourage teams to register sooner rather than later.”
