Two Teams Advance to 10th U.S. Four-Ball Championship at Plainfield CC
PARAMUS, N.J. - John Pitt (Raleigh, N.C.) and Whitten Meares (Charleston, S.C.) grabbed medalist honors, while New Jersey competitors Michael O’Connell and Thomas Collins also advanced to compete at Plainfield Country Club from May 17-22, 2025 in the 10th U.S. Four-Ball Championship.
The medalists fired an 8-under par 63, recording nine birdies and just one blemish on their final hole at Arcola Country Club.
O’Connell and Collins turned in a 6-under par 65 on the abnormally warm October afternoon. O’Connell, a member of Arcola helped the duo navigate the challenging conditions.
“We knew the course is playing firm and fast,” O’Connell mentioned. “Paul Dotti does an incredible job. We knew where to miss and we knew on the 3rd hole that it was gettable and Tommy was able to knock it in for two.”
The pair have been competing together for a while, and are eager to face national competition in their home state.
“We've hit great shots over the years, but we never really put it all together.” Collins added. “Today could have been better, but when you get to this level, you're going to have things that don't go your way. There was a little luck involved when the ball went in on No. 3 and when there's only two spots, I think you have to be a little fortunate - so we'll take it. Plus it's nice to not have a huge commute to next year.”
