Trevor Randolph Of Arcola Seeks 3rd Mid-am Title In Row, At Home Course

A year ago, Trevor Randolph of Arcola became first repeat champion in the NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championship since Tom Gramigna of Tavistock in 2002-03. Ed Alden of Flanders Valley did it in 1996-97 and Bruce Young of Harkers Hollow also did it in 1994-95.

This year, Randolph attempts to win for an unprecedented third consecutive time when the 32nd NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championship is contested at his home course, Arcola Country Club in Paramus, beginning Tuesday, September 8 through Thursday, September 10.

In the final match last year, Randolph subdued Peter Barron of Stone Harbor, 4 and 3, on three hours sleep while Barron battled a painful shoulder injury he incurred during the match at Laurel Creek Country Club.

“It’s not often you have an opportunity to win something this big,” said Randolph.

“It had been a goal of mine to win this championship. It will be at my home club this year and I am happy to be a defending champion there,” he said.

Randolph, 42, who lives in Franklin Lakes in Bergen County, traveled 2-1/2 hours each morning for three days to participate in the event at Laurel Creek.in Mount Laurel.

“It’s pretty special to win this, but to play mid-amateur golf, you have to have the support of your family and your colleagues from work,” said Randolph, 42, a native of Betheseda, Md. “I have to thank my wife, Brandyn. She’s had it all under control. She’s been real supportive of me. I had to get up at 4 a.m. the last three mornings.”

Randolph is a manager director for Credit Suisse in New York in equity derivatives.

Randolph last year competed in U.S. Mid-Amateur at Saucon Valley Country Club, in Bethlehem, Pa. Also in 2014, he was co-runner-up in the NJSGA Amateur. He was named captain of the New Jersey Team that competed in the USGA National State Team championship.

Randolph, who won the 2013 NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championship, grabbed the second seed behind medalist Tom Collins of Spring Brook in qualifying for the 31st Mid-Amateur Championship at Laurel Creek. Randolph fired a round of 1-under-par 70 on a course he had never seen before.

Randolph, the runner-up at the Met Amateur in 2013 to Pat Wilson of Panther Valley, unleashed a birdie barrage when he went on to win the 2013 Mid-Amateur at Trump National in Bedminster. Including the qualifier and four subsequent matches, Randolph accumulated an amazing 25 birdies for the week.

Randolph, is a native of Bethesda, Md., and four-time club champion at Congressional.

Randolph played golf at Rice University after attending St. Alban’s School in Washington, D.C.

He played in a U.S. Junior in 1990 and U.S. Amateurs in 1992 and ’97. He also competed in the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur at Conway Farms in Illinois.
