Toys For Tots Drive At Spring Lake G.C. Aids 700 Children

For the 15th consecutive year, caddies from the Spring Lake Golf Club have done their part in collecting Toys for Tots.

At the direction of caddie master Tom Caverly, who was last year recognized for his contributions to the NJSGA Caddie Scholarship Foundation, caddies and students from St. Rose High School in nearby Belmar chose to participate in the program.

In total, more than 700 toys were collected and delivered to the U.S. Marines of the Sixth Mountain Brigade Toys for Tots drive at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown.

The toys will be distributed to needy children throughout Monmouth County.

“Tom Caverly is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has a great relationship with the Marines. Tom is a wonderful guy who has spearheaded these efforts as well as fundraising efforts for caddie scholars,” said Spring Lake head professional Bill King, himself a former NJSGA Caddie Scholar who graduated from Rutgers University.

“Spring Lake recently named a caddie scholarship award in Tom’s name. We told the young people who participated in Toys for Tots that they just made Christmas a lot more enjoyable for 700 kids,” King said.

At Spring Lake, toys were collected for Toys for Tots at each holiday gathering at the club.

“I’ve always been cognizant of Toys for Tots. When my children were young and we went Christmas shopping, I always told them to pick out something for Toys for Tots. Then we would drive to the mall and deliver them in person to the Marines there. It always made a big impression on my kids,” King added.
