Three Advance to 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

BOONTON, N.J. - Three players qualified for the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship on Tuesday after a qualifying round at Knoll Country Club – West. Molly Smith (Westford, Massachusetts), Katie Lu (Plainsboro, New Jersey) and Julie Towne (Eustis, Florida) earned a trip to compete at Southern Hills Country Club in Oklahoma from August 5-11.
Smith, a rising sophomore at the University of Central Florida fired a 6-under par 64 en route to medalist honors. She tallied seven birdies on the 6,187 yard track.
After a 3-for-2 playoff, Katie Lu (Plainsboro, N.J.) recorded a birdie on the first playoff hole to advance, while Julia Towne (Eustis, Flor.) turned in a par on the second hole to earn the final spot. Samantha Galantini earned the first alternate spot.
