Ten Advance in Final Four-Ball Qualifier at The Legacy Club
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Ten teams are moving on to Hollywood Golf Club to compete in the 92nd Four-Ball Championship after a qualifying round at The Legacy Club on April 29. The duo of Stephen Scott and Dan Close of The Legacy Club combined to shoot six-under par, 65 on the way to medalist honors.
Playing in their first Four-Ball event as a tandem, the hometown pair of Scott and Close used their course knowledge to rise to the top the leaderboard.
“There’s definitely a homefield advantage around here for sure. Just knowing where we can miss it and where we can’t,” said Scott. “This place isn’t going to kill you with length but we know the spots to be.”
Teeing off on the tenth hole, Scott got the momentum for the team started with three birdies through the first nine holes as part of a bogey-free, three-under par, 33.
“We were hitting fairways and hitting greens but it’s always good to see the ball go in,” said Scott.
Picking up where Scott left off, Close rattled off three birdies of his own on the team’s back-nine, including a chip-in birdie on hole No. 9 to finish the day with a bang.
“I had to catch up to Steve with the birdies,” Close joked. “On nine, it was one of those holes where we made bogey on seven to ruin the clean scorecard, so we wanted one at the end. And it went in.”
The Legacy Club served as the final qualifying site for the 92nd Four-Ball Championship at Hollywood Golf Club. Hollywood will host its first NJSGA major championship since the 2011 Open when it hosts the 92nd Four-Ball Championship from May 7-9.
