Taylor Takes Home 13th Super-Senior Championship Presented by NJM Insurance Group
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Lou Taylor emerged victorious in the 13th Super-Senior Championship presented by NJM Insurance Group. Taylor, 65, carded a three-over par, 75 at New Jersey National Golf Club on Monday.
Teeing off of the 10th hole, Taylor started out hot, picking up an eagle on the par-five 13th hole and added a birdie on the 16th for a one-under par, 35 on the front-nine.
“I hit a drive down the right side over the trap on 13. I hit a four iron onto the green at about 20 feet and sank the putt,” said Taylor.
Coming down the stretch, Taylor hit another long putt on his 17th hole, the par-five, 8th, for a final birdie which ended up being the difference on the afternoon.
“I made a bunch of putts. I made the eagle putt, I made a couple of long birdie putts and a couple of nice, par-saving putts,” said Taylor. “Doug Yates, who came in second, we shared the same cart. He was technically in the lead heading into that hole and that putt turned out to be the difference.”
Jay Blumenfeld, who won the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Super-Senior Championship, and Yates each fired four-over par, 76 to split a share of second place. Taylor, who turned 65 in February, captured the Super-Senior title in his first attempt at the championship.
“I thought I had a chance; I wasn’t sure if 75 would get it done but the wind picked up and hurt some scores out there. It was terrific,” said Taylor.
