In the latest of this series, Brian Dobbie of Trump National Golf Club - Bedminster, shares fitness tips to help keep you in shape and your game sharp.
Use this down time away from golf as a positive and keep your body strong and flexible!
A great exercise anyone can do to stay Golf fit is an Overhead Kettle Bell swing. Always start out with a light weight...maybe 2 to 4 pounds and practice good form first. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, knees bent, head up while holding the kettle bell between your knees.
Position 1 is to swing the kettle bell chest height and return to starting position. Position 2 is to swing the kettlebell directly overhead in one movement. This exercise helps to build leg strength, increase mobility in the hips, increased arm extension, upper body strength and builds sequencing into your body needed to make a better golf swing.
Start out with 3 sets of 10 reps every other day and gradually work up to 3 sets of 20 reps with maybe a 5-10 pound kettle bell. As with any exercise go at your pace. You will better hitting longer drives in no time!
