Stamberger, Blumenfeld, Chen Win Player Of Year Awards

State Amateur champion Mike Stamberger of Spring Lake has won his second NJSGA Player of the Year Award.

Stamberger, who tied for the runner-up spot at the State Open, bested Mid-Amateur champion Trevor Randolph of Arcola, 791.7-732.8, with State Open champion Max Greyserman third with 690 points.

Stamberger also won the award for the state’s top amateur player in 2011

This year, the NJSGA added two Player of the Year awards, for Senior Men, won by State Senior Amateur champion Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge, and for Amateur Women, won by State Women’s Public Links champion Alice Chen of Neshanic Valley.

Blumenfeld won the Senior POY Award by a 359.5-299.-5 margin over Allan Small, who has won five Senior Amateur championships. Third place went to Dan Levinson of Bayonne, the low amateur for the second year in a row at the Senior Open, who totaled 206.67 points.

Alice Chen, one of the most prolific female golfers in state annals, edged Women’s Amateur champion Taylor Totland of Hollywood, 575-550. Chen, who was runner-up by one shot to Christina Parsells of Baltusrol in the Junior Girls Championship, an event she won the previous two years, is now a teammate with Totland at Furman University.

Fran Gacos of Copper Hill, who won the state Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur and partnered with John Feindt in winning the Mixed Pinehurst, was third with 427.5 points.
