Slonis Sets Pace at 66th Senior Amateur Championship
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, N.J. – Jamie Slonis of Tavistock Country Club leads the 66th Senior Amateur Championship presented by NJM Insurance Group after 18 holes on Tuesday at Beacon Hill Country Club. Slonis fired at 1-under par 70.
Slonis completed his front nine at 3-under par. After a bogey, an eagle on the par five No. 7 boosted his confidence before heading into the back nine.
“It helped a little bit,” Slonis said. “I didn’t know what to expect. I knew I was hitting it good.”
Slonis faced late challenges with four bogeys on the 5,695-yard course.
"Beacon Hill is a great course,” expressed Slonis. “You have to keep the ball in play. My length helps a little bit because some of the par 5s are reachable.”
The morning wave was led by Lance Oberparleiter and Andre Bolukbas finishing at 3-over par 74 to earn their spot in tomorrow’s final round. Harris Podvey also finished at 3-over par on Tuesday.
“I am looking to play like I did today,” Bolukbas mentionde. “Keep my focus, take one shot at a time, and put the ball in the hole as quick as possible.”
43 players have made the cut at 9-over par, 80 or better. Four of the six past champions in the field made the cut. The championship will conclude on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
