New Jersey golfers will have the opportunity to play six of the most esteemed private courses in the state in 2013 at a very reasonable cost thanks to the New Jersey State Golf Association’s highly popular Member Golf Days.

Member Golf Days, which began with four events in 2011 and added a fifth in 2012, now has six dates at both classic and contemporary courses dotted throughout the state. The Member Golf Day season begins on Monday, June 3, at Trump National-Philadelphia and lasts until Monday, October 14 at Hidden Creek in Egg Harbor Township.

The other Member Golf Day outings include Monday, June 24, at Raritan Valley in Branchburg; Monday, August 5, at Metedeconk National in Jackson; Wednesday, August 21, at Rockaway River on Denville, and Monday, October 7, at Upper Montclair in Clifton.

“Truly, these are can’t-miss events for our membership,” said Rich Kennedy, the NJSGA director of membership and handicapping services. “Member Golf Days (MGDs) are open to NJSGA members of varying skill levels. It is a wonderful opportunity to play great courses that golfers may never again have the opportunity to play.

“These courses rank among the best New Jersey has to offer. We are extremely pleased with how the Member Golf Day schedule turned out for this season. There is a lot of enthusiasm for the MGDs from both the golfers’ side and the clubs’ side,” Kennedy stated.

Golfers, who pay $125 to take part in any of the six events and receive greens fee, cart, lunch, prizes and post-golf hors d’oeuvres, will play in less competitive tournament conditions. The only eligibility requirements is that a male or female golfer over the age of 18 be registered at a NJSGA member club/course and hold an active Handicap Index of less than 30.0. Golfers aged 14 and older can participate with a parent or guardian.

Over the years, these six clubs have hosted many NJSGA championships as well as other regional and national events. On these six dates, New Jersey golfers can sample NJSGA golf under more relaxing conditions. The program is geared for the NJSGA’s broader membership audience.

“These are less formal competitions which will give golfers a chance to compete in a net format. The net tournaments will include three Four-Ball (two-person) team events and three individual stroke-play events with Stableford (points) scoring.

“In the Four-Ball team events, a partner can pick up the other on a bad hole while Stableford is the only stroke-play format in which a golfer can implode on a hole, pick up the ball with no penalty, and head to the next tee to try to make birdie!,” Kennedy said. “This makes the competition less stressful and more fun!”

“Truly, these courses sell themselves. This is what Member Golf Days are all about – creating great opportunities for our membership,” he concluded.
