Six Advance to 122nd U.S. Women’s Amateur out of Qualifier at Crestmont Country Club
WEST ORANGE, N.J. – On an unusually chilly June day, six golfers advanced to the 122nd U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, as the New Jersey State Golf Association hosted qualifying at Crestmont Country Club (par 72; 6,293 yards) on Wednesday afternoon.
Jennifer Cleary, an incoming junior at the University of Virginia shot a 2-under par 70 to earn medalist honors. The Delaware native will be making her first appearance in the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
“I hit it pretty well,” said Cleary following her round. “The conditions were pretty tough, the course was pretty tough out there, so I just figured if I just kept steady, made a lot of pars, hit a lot of greens then it would be good.”
2021 New Jersey Women’s Amateur Champion, Ami Gianchandani finished right behind Cleary with a 1-under par 71. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 5, a 354-yard par 4.
She will be competing in her second National Championship this year, making a trip to the U.S. Women’s Open earlier in June.
“Golf is all about getting experience and learning from when you play well and you don't play well,” Gianchandani commented. “This will be my 10th USGA Championship and hopefully the first nine have taught me and trained me well.”
