Seton Hall Golfer Impresses At Australian Master Of Amateurs Tournament
On Sunday, Jan. 10, Seton Hall University junior Lloyd Jefferson Go of Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines, finished an impressive 25th in the Australian Master of the Amateurs tournament, the top-ranked amateur event in Australia.
University of Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise edged out Great Britain's Jonathan Thomson by two strokes to capture the Australian Master of the Amateurs championship at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Wise, one of six Americans in the field, rebounded from a tough 5-over second round with a 4-under third and 1-under final round to hold off Thomson.
Go was 13 strokes behind Wise. The Seton Hall standout shot an 8-over-par, 74-78-73-71-296, saving his best round for last as he used the strength five birdies in round four to shoot up the leader board.
In 2014, Go, playing out of Fiddler’s Elbow, was fifth in the NJSGA State Amateur, shooting a 5-over-par 289, six shots behind champion Mike Stamberger of Spring Lake. His Seton Hall teammate, Ryan Snouffer of Panther Valley, was two shots behind Go in sixth place.
Go’s performance in Australia comes after a strong fall season for him on both the collegiate and amateur ranks. Go shot even-par or better in three of his four fall tournaments with Seton Hall, including a remarkable 6-under-par showing at the Hartford Hawk Invitational which matches the lowest three-round, par-72 tournament score in Seton Hall history.
On the amateur circuit, Go was just as impressive. His amateur exploits were highlighted by an eighth place tie among 192 golfers at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in October.
Currently, Go is ranked No. 225 by the world amateur golf rankings.
