Senior Four Ball A Close Affair

In a very competitive Senior Four Ball Championship at Beacon Hill Country Club on September 20th, the Metuchen Golf & Country Club team of Ron Vannelli and Steve Mauer edged out two other teams for the victory. Three teams posted gross best ball scores of 69, or two-under par, and it took a match of cards for Vannelli/Mauer (36-33) to prevail over the Ash Brook team of Charles Potter and John Lay, Jr. (35-34) and the Plainfield West team of John Hendricks and Denis Johnson (35-34). The Metuchen team won by virtue of their lower back nine score on the match of cards.

In the net division, Michael Sands and Mel Feder of Westlake shot 62 and claimed victory by a stroke over the Sea Oaks team of Ed Zebrowski and Art Caldwell. Brian Byrne and Robert Sokol of Hyatt Hills finished third with a net 64.
