Schiavone Cup Returns To Forsgate Oct. 5-6
Forsgate Country Club will once again host the prestigious R.A. Schiavone Memorial Cup, Oct. 5-6, 2016. This two-day individual/team event is open to senior scratch amateur golfers (age 50+) and club professionals and will be staged on Forsgate’s Banks Course, ranked among the best courses in New Jersey by Golf Digest magazine. For the first time, the top-five amateur players (55+) will be awarded points for the New Jersey State Golf Association’s Senior Player of the Year.
The first R.A. Schiavone Cup was staged in 2012 to honor longtime Garden State golf course owner/investor Ronald A. Schiavone, the father of RDC Golf Group President Christopher Schiavone.
“The event is becoming an annual tradition for some of the area’s best senior amateurs as well as top club professionals,” said Christopher Schiavone. “We look forward to seeing familiar and new faces enjoying a great course and great company every year."
The event begins on Oct. 5, with an amateur skills competition followed by a welcome luncheon. The action on the course will then take off with a two-man team, aggregate score Pro/Senior Scratch Championship. While competing as a team, the pros will also be competing in an Individual Pro Medal Play Championship, featuring a $5,000 purse ($2,000 first place), and the amateurs will be carding the first 18 holes of their 36-hole Senior Scratch Individual Medal Play Championship. A steak and lobster dinner and awards presentation will cap off the day’s activities.
On Oct. 6, the senior amateurs will return to the club for the final round of the Senior Scratch Individual Medal Play Championship. The winner will receive a $600 gift certificate.
The entry fee for each team is $300, and the field is limited to 60 teams.
