Rumson C.C. Hosts Member Golf Day 2nd Straight Year

Rumson C.C. Hosts Member Golf Day 2nd Straight Year

Stunning Rumson Country Club in Rumson provided the backdrop for the second NJSGA Member Golf Day of the season to a sold-out field of 109 excited golfers.

“We’re back at Rumson for the second straight year and that in of itself, says a lot about the event itself,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Member Services. “The golfers love playing here and the club enjoys hosting the NJSGA golfers who can thoroughly enjoy these facilities.

“It’s a win-win for both the club and the golfers. We have a lot of repeat players who were here last year. There was a lot more interest in playing here this year than last year. The event sold out in about a week.”

Once again, New Jersey golfers have the opportunity to play some of the state’s most challenging private courses this upcoming golf season at a very reasonable cost thanks to the highly popular Member Golf Days.

Steve Mackin went to the NJSGA.org website to enter his handicap and discovered the Member golf Day offerings.

“It’s a great idea. I found a lot of other great member benefits on the website, too,” he said

Member Golf Days began with four events in 2011 and added a fifth in 2012, and a sixth in 2013. In 2014, the NJSGA installed 11 Member Golf Days, the same amount available in 2015.

The Member Golf Day season began on May 21 at Glen Ridge Country Club. The MGD seasons lasts until October 21 at Alpine.

The 2015 Member Golf Day Schedule includes more outstanding venues throughout the state: June 29, Upper Montclair C.C. in Clifton; July 13, Echo Lake C.C. in Westfield; July 20, Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes; July 23, Trump National G.C. in Bedminster; July 28, Laurel Creek C.C. in Mount Laurel; August 11, Metuchen G. & C.C.; August 18, Hawk Pointe G.C., October 6, Hidden Creek H.C. in Egg Harbor Township and October 15 at Alpine C.C. in Demarest.

The events at Upper Montclair, Echo Lake, Ridge at Back Brook and Trump National-Bedminster are sold out. Metuchen and Laurel Creek are quickly filling up.

On Wednesday, August 5 at 9 a.m., the NJSGA will open registration for Hidden Creek and Alpine.

Mike Hamas and Terry Deugo are playing together in four Member Golf Days this season also including Upper Montclair, Echo Lake and Laurel Creek, even though it’s their first year playing any MGDs at all.

“We like the idea of playing together in a tournament atmosphere. We like the competition. It’s well organized,” Hamas said.

Jerry Greenberg of Fort Lee and Dick Altschul of Hackensack drove down from Bergen County to take part.

“It’s great to be here and a great course. Maybe we’ll stay over and play golf in the Atlantic City area tomorrow,” Greenberg said.
