Rouillard, Hansard Lead Field in 55th Women's Senior Amateur
SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. - Defending champion Shannon Rouillard of Watchung Valley Golf Club and Karen Hansard of Heron Glen Golf Course each fired a 5-over par 76 to share the lead after the first round of the 55th Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Shackamaxon Country Club. Hansard is also atop the leaderboard in the 35th Super-Senior Championship.
Rouillard, the 2023 winner, started off with a bogey on her first hole but quickly erased the shaky start with two birdies on the day. Rouillard credits the course for its challenging yet rewarding play.
"It’s a fun golf course,” expressed Rouillard. “If you miss it in the right spot, you certainly still have an opportunity to score.”
Rouillard, is looking to become the first repeat winner since Maura Ballard of Spring Brook CC won back-to-back titles in 2016.
Hansard stayed consistent throughout her round and was able to limit any mistakes on the course. Hansard turned an improved day two at last year’s Senior Women’s Amateur Championship into a top-10 finish and will be looking to do more of the same tomorrow.
"Hopefully, I can get a good night’s sleep,” joked Hansard. “I want to come out, do the same thing and just take it easy.”
The final round will begin with a shotgun start on Wednesday at 9:00am
