Reception Honors NJSGA Players Of The Year

Golfers, friends, relatives, volunteers and members the New Jersey State Golf Association were on hand for the second Tournament Players Reception on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at its headquarters at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth.

The highlight of the evening were the presentations of the NJSGA Player of the Year Awards to Trevor Randolph of Arcola (Men’s Player of the Year), Tara Fleming of New Jersey National (Women’s POY) and Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge (Senior POY).

Champions who attended included Alice Chen of Neshanic Valley (Women’s Amateur), Randolph (Men’s Mid-Amateur), Blumenfeld (Senior Amateur), Will Celiberti of Arcola (Boys), Justin Chae and Evan Quinn of N.J. National (Men’s Four-Ball), Bill Henry of Forsgate (Men’s Super Senior) and Helen Bernstein of WGA of N.J. (Women’s Mid-Amateur). Bernstein also won the Women’s Four-Ball with Sherry Herman, who was also in attendance.

Chen has won six NJSGA championships, including two Women’s Amateurs, two Women’s Public Links and two Junior Girls. Randolph has won three of the past four men’s Mid-Amateurs.

“It was an opportunity for us to socialize in the winter with people we spend a lot of time with in the summer,” said NJSGA executive director Kevin Purcell. “It’s a good way to stay in touch with them and a perfect opportunity to share a few laughs as friends. We were happy to have a good cross-section of people at the event.”

Also in attendance was long-time NJSGA Board Member Coleen Luker of Bella Vista who was awarded the prestigious 2016 MGA Judy Bell Award which recognizes significant contributions to women’s and junior golf in the Metropolitan area.
