Recap: Qualifying Concludes for 102nd Open Championship
KENILWORTH, NEW JERSEY - The fifth and final qualifying round for the 102nd New Jersey Open Championship concluded on Wednesday at Roxiticus Golf Club in Mendham, and the field is set for the championship proper at the spectacular Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes July 25-27.
At Roxiticus on June 29, amateur Davis Weil of The Ridgewood Country Club was the lone competitor to break par on the par 70 6,445-yard course. Weil posted a three-under-par 67, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle. Nine players advanced to the championship. Click for scoring.
On June 28 at the Knoll Country Club (West) in Parsippany, amateur William Huang of Springdale Golf Club carded a two-under-par 68 to pace the field. In the process, Huang collected his second medalist title of June which came on the heels of his medalist effort in the Amateur Qualifying at Quail Brook on June 11. Arav Patel of Forsgate Country Club fired an impressive five-under-par 66 on Thursday, June 23 at Laurel Creek Country Club in Mount Laurel to lead a group of eight qualifiers for the Open Championship. Six of the eight qualifiers completed rounds under par under rainy conditions. Click for scoring.
Two days earlier, on Tuesday, June 21 at White Beeches Golf and Country Club in Haworth, host club assistant professional Keith Prokop claimed medalist honors by virtue of his five-under-par effort of 67. Prokop led a total of 18 qualifiers to the Ridge, and finished three shots better than amateur Colin Summers of Plainfield Country Club. Click for scoring.
In the first of the five Open qualifiers at Knob Hill Golf Club in Manalapan on Monday, July 14, recently appointed head golf professional at Baltusrol Golf Club, Jaimie Pierson, shot a 3-under par 67 to lead nine qualifiers into the championship. Pierson’s effort was highlighted by four birdies on the front nine. Click for scoring.
