Qualifying for 122nd New Jersey Amateur Concludes at Basking Ridge CC
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Rhett Sellers of Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club fired a 1-under-par 70 to claim medalist honors today in the fifth and final qualifying round for the 122nd New Jersey Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank.
Hosted at Basking Ridge Country Club, the narrow course was challenging to the golfers causing many to drop strokes in the back nine. Sellers composed a strategy in order to advance to the championship.
"I knew I just needed to hit fairways and greens and that's what I did - just stuck to my game plan and it worked out," said Sellers.
He finished his front nine even par (36), before carding in three birdies on the back nine.
“Obviously the state AM is a big deal," Sellers explained. "The ability to represent Rutgers and my home state would be pretty cool. So it'd be really nice.”
Sellers and 18 others now advance to the 122nd Amateur Championship at Manasquan River Golf Club from July 10-12.
