Qualifying Recap: 104th New Jersey Open Championship Presented by Donnelly Industries
KENILWORTH, N.J. - The historic Plainfield Country Club will welcome the 104th Open Championship from July 23-25. Having hosted The Barclays twice as well as the 1978 U.S. Amateur Championship and the 1987 U.S. Women’s Open Championship, Plainfield is no stranger to noteworthy championships at its facility. Designed by Donald Ross and opened for play in 1921, the club has since been gradually restored by Gil Hanse over the years. One of the founding clubs of the NJSGA, Plainfield’s long-standing tradition of excellence will be exhibited through the impressive competition from Garden State golfers, both professional and amateurs.
Five qualifiers for the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries will take place in the months of June and July.
Thursday, June 13, LBI National Golf Resort
In the first qualifier for the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries, six players finished at even par, 72, or better at LBI National Golf Resort. Leading that way with a round of four-under par, 68, was Dylan Gallagher of Rockland Country Club. Gallagher made eight birdies on the afternoon, including four straight to close out his round and earn medalist honors.
Monday, June 17, Lake Mohawk GC
Seven players are moving on to the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries, following a qualifier at Lake Mohawk Golf Club. Tied atop the leaderboard at one-over par, 71, was Brendan Hunt, a professional at Somerset Hills Country Club and amateur Tucker Sandercock. Just behind at two-over par, 72, were Christoff Els, a professional, and Derek Nahrwold, an amateur. Els made three consecutive birdies to end his round while Nahrwold played his back nine at three-under par, 32 to qualify.
Tuesday, June 18, Green Brook CC
On a hot and sunny day at Green Brook Country Club, 20 players advanced to the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries. Four amateurs, John Meyers, Stephen Lindholm, Richie Reck and Anthony Alex, finished with rounds of three-under par, 68, to finish atop the leaderboard. Representing Plainfield Country Club are amateurs Colin Summers and Nicholas Conti, as well as professional Ryan Hager, who birdied three of his final four holes to make the cut on the number at one-over par, 72.
Thursday, June 27, Metuchen G & CC
Seventeen players qualified for the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries after 18 holes at Metuchen Golf and Country Club. Arav Patel, an amateur out of Forsgate Country Club led the field finished at 5-under par 67. Patel carded six birdies en route to medalist honors. Rhett Sellers and Tyler McArdell finished as the top professionals, turning in a 2-under par 70. The qualifying cut was set at even par.
Tuesday, July 2, Trenton CC
In the final qualifier for the 104th New Jersey Open Championship presented by Donnelly Industries, 14 players shotone-over par, 71, or better at Trenton Country Club. Doug Ergood of Tavistock Country Club earned medalist honors following a round of three-under par, 67, with five birdies on the afternoon. Logan Buell, an Assistant Professional at Trenton CC, was one of four players just behind Ergood at two-under par, 68, along with amateurs Adrian Jordan, Thomas Lee and Liam White.
