Professionals' Purse for Open Championship Increased to $100k; Registration Closes Thursday, June 10

As the New Jersey State Golf Association begins its second 100 years of conducting its Open Championship, there is exciting news for local golf professionals who compete in the field.

Beginning with the 101st NJSGA Open Championship this July 19-21 at Spring Brook Country Club, the total purse awarded to professionals will increase to $100,000. Also of note, the winner’s share (or the amount awarded to the low professional, if the championship is won by an amateur) is now $25,000.

Eric Houseknecht, president of the NJSGA, was excited to announce the news.

“We're thrilled to increase our Open purse to the $100,000 level this year and believe the $25,000 first place prize brings us in-line with the country's other premier golf associations. This was an objective we had planned to institute last year, to coincide with the 100th playing of our Open, but the financial uncertainty surrounding the pandemic precluded that happening. Nonetheless, we still have a significant milestone in our history to point to, since 2021 represents the 100th anniversary of the first NJSGA Open being conducted.”

Registration for the 101st Open Championship remains available until Thursday, June 10 at 5:00 p.m. Eligibility standards apply to professionals and amateurs; for full details and to enter, click here.
