After an opening round 77, Parsells led by five strokes. With three-time champion Samantha Perrotta trailing right behind her, Parsells came out clutch down the stretch. She finished the back nine even par to come out on top. Perrotta carded an even par 72 to finish in second in the Mid-Amateur.

"On No. 17, I had a bad three-putt and was sort of feeling angry,” said Parsells. “I said to myself get up and down and the pin was tucked. It was tough, I had some pretty difficult shots.”

Newly eligible for the Mid-Amateur, Parsells is now a two-time NJSGA Champion, winning the 2014 Junior Girls’ Championship.

“It’s great,” claimed Parsells. “I love the mid-am circuit and I’m glad I’m finally getting to play the events.”

Defending champion Ami Gianchandani bounced back after an opening round 75, turning in a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday. Gianchandani, a two-time Women’s Amateur Championship (2021, 2023) earned co-medalist honors with Katie Li.

“It’s really all about making it to match play,” said Gianchandani. “Being the one seed is great, but I just wanted to be in the top 16.”

Li, 19, notched five birdies in her second round. She’s set to face Lily Patel in the Round of 16.

Grace Smith of Hidden Creek Golf Club matched the low round of the day, shooting a 2-under par 70. She carded six birdies en route to a top-3 seed in the match play bracket.

The match play bracket is set for the 99th Women’s Amateur Championship. Katie Li and Ami Gianchandani earned medalist honors at 1-over par 145.

Round of 16 matches will begin on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Following the conclusion of the morning matches, quarterfinal action will get underway.
