Samantha Perrotta Repeats As Farnum Cup Champion
Samantha Perrotta of Old York Country Club, who earlier this month won the 5th NJSGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at the Essex County Country Club in West Orange, on Wednesday fired an even-par 73 to successfully defend her title at the Farnum Cup, the medal-play championship of the Women's Golf Association of Philadelphia.
Perrotta, of Bordentown, finished the 36-hole test at 4-over par 150 at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club for her third overall championship in the event; she also claimed the title in 2015.
She started her final round by going out in one-under par 35, and was one under on the back side and two under for her round before finding a bunker at the par-3 No. 17, taking three shots to escape, and making a triple bogey. "The club dug in and got stuck," she said.
At the next hole, par-5 No. 18, Perrotta two-putted for birdie from the back fringe to conclude her 73 over a golf course that measured 5,718 yards.
Perrotta, who is autistic, says she's finding it easier to control her emotions on the golf course. "I'm calmer out there now than I was when I first started," she said. "It's easy to stay calm when you know you can get shots back."
First-day leader Katie Edelblut of Trenton Country Club, a former golfer at Princeton Day School and William & Mary wound up second, two shots off the pace, after a 4-over par 77 on Wednesday that left her at 6-over par 152 for the tournament.
