NJSGA Rules Seminar & Officials Workshop Well Attended
Wednesday, April 16, was a busy day at the NJSGA headquarters at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth when it presented both a Rules Seminar and a Tournament Officials Workshop.
Some 50 people participated in the morning and early-after Rules Seminar, while another 60 individuals took part in the Officials Workshop.
Golfers, officials and others are urged to brush up on the rules of golf and there’s no better way than by attending an NJSGA Rules of Golf Seminar. These seminars are open to the public, with another held at Spring Lake Golf Club on April 3. The seminars are particularly useful for golf committee, handicap committee and NJSGA Board members as well as club professional staff and golf coaches, such as high school and collegiate golf instructors.
The seminars focus on common rules situations encountered during every day play and at NJSGA championships, and are taught by expert rules officials representing the NJSGA.
The NJSGA Tournament Officials Workshop provides a refresher for those who volunteer to officiate at any of the 24 championships the NJSGA conducts throughout the summer.
Each group was treated to food and beverages.
“It was a great day to catch up with people who are most valuable to our organization,” said NJSGA Tournament Director Mike McAneny. “Golf is very important to the NJSGA and to the people who attend these seminars.
“This is the sixth year we are conducting two seminars,” said McAneny. “The seminars are educational forums that are part of our member services. They are popular because they cover a pertinent set of commonly encountered rules situations.”
Evan Broadbelt and Dr. Albert Kuchler, co-chairmen of the NJSGA’s Tournament and Rules Committee as well as recognized USGA officials, served as presenters. Both have scored 100 percent on the USGA golf examination.
Kuchler created the slide show presentation that was in evidence at the seminar.
“We are fortunate to have two of the best rules official minds in the country at our seminars,” McAneny said.
McAneny conducted the Tournament Officials Workshop.
