NJSGA National Girls and Women in Sports Day Headlined by Kathryn Tappen and Christina Thompson
KENILWORTH, N.J. – The New Jersey State Golf Association (NJSGA) is eager to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 as it hosts 'Next on the Tee: #thestateofgolf Celebrates #NGWSD' at Galloping Hill Golf Course, headquarters of the NJSGA.
Next on the Tee: #thestateofgolf Celebrates #NGWSD comes on the heels of the successful inaugural event in 2022. This event will help introduce, excite, and inspire girls. Females that are attending college and high school locally are eligible to register for this event at Galloping Hill Golf Course.
In 2023, the NJSGA NGWSD will feature female speakers, who are advocates of the game and have made a significant impact on golf for girls and women. Established Sportscaster Kathryn Tappen and Golf4Her Founder and CEO Christina Thompson, and former Evans Scholar, Samantha Boehmcke are set to headline the evening, providing valuable information for girls and women in the industry.
Tappen, a former Academic-All American at Rutgers University where she was a member of the track and field and cross country team has covered a plethora of sports over the course of her broadcasting career. The New Jersey native has worked many big events in sports, including the Olympics, Super Bowl, NFL Kickoff, Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final, Notre Dame Football, and golf, including most recently The Match, between Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
Thompson launched Golf4Her.com in 2010, an online boutique selling women’s golf apparel and accessories. Golf4Her provides women styles that blend fashion, sport and lifestyle from top favorite designers for women of all shapes and sizes. Golf4Her sponsors LPGA athletes like Garden State native Marina Alex, MarioJo Uribe and Mo Martin.
Since 1987, National Girls and Women in Sports Day has been a day to recognize females and female sports. In order to grow the game of golf, girls and women must be involved.
As part of the evening, the NJSGA will offer a free NJSGA membership to all females 18 and under. Benefits of an NJSGA membership includes a GHIN number, Member Golf Days, championships, seminars, and networking events. Also, NJSGA members receive New Jersey Golf Magazine, the NJSGA's official publication, in addition to E-Links, the NJSGA’s official email newsletter. E-Links provides members with the latest news, special offers, and everything in #thestateofgolf.
The NJSGA offers a total of nine girls and women’s championships as well as Women’s Golf Days and a slew of member benefits. There are also plenty of local and regional golf opportunities for girls around the Metropolitan area. Information on these resources will be provided at the event.
