Robert C. Krueger, one of the NJSGA’s longest serving and best-known volunteers, passed away on July 26, 2024 at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
A fixture at NJSGA championships and events for parts of four decades beginning in 1984, “Bob” was often the friendly face who greeted players on the first tee as they began their round. He generously gave of his time to the NJSGA as a Board Member, Tournament Committee Chairman, and Rules Official during which time he worked hundreds of tournaments. In 2014, Bob was recognized with the NJSGA’s highest volunteer honor: The Honey Gantner Award for his longstanding and exemplary service to the game.
A resident of Randolph prior to relocating to Florida, Bob was a longtime member of Rockaway River Country Club in Denville where he served as Vice President as well as other committees.
Bob grew up in Union, N.J. and attended Union High School, where he thrived both academically and athletically. An athlete from the start, he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. His love for sports, particularly golf, continued throughout his life, and he maintained a single-digit handicap for most of his years.
After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army. He served with honor from February 13, 1952, to February 12, 1954 and attained the rank of Sergeant. After his military service, Bob embarked on a successful career, eventually becoming the Executive Vice-President and part owner of the H.F Butler Corporation of Union, N.J., a heavy plate steel fabrication company.
Bob is survived by his loving son, Robert C. Krueger Jr., his daughter-in-law, Megan K. Krueger, and his treasured grandchildren, Robert C. Krueger III and Maeve E. Krueger. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Krueger, in 2004.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the New Jersey State Golf Association Caddie Scholarship Foundation, continuing Bob's legacy of supporting young golfers. (Click here to donate.)
