NJSGA Members Have Opportunity To Play Events At Exclusive South Jersey Clubs
The New Jersey State Golf Association has been in a successful collaboration with the South Jersey Golf Association for the past four years.
The goal remains the same - to maximize playing opportunities for golfers, both young and old, throughout the Garden State.
The mutually beneficial relationship enables members of each golf association to participate in each other’s championships. Members of the SJGA may also participate in NJSGA Member Golf Days.
Pertinent information for members of the NJSGA is the fact that they can play exclusive private clubs in South Jersey for affordable prices, including Greate Bay, Woodcrest and Stone Harbor, when NJSGA members participate in SJGA one-day tournaments.
Registration for SJGA events begins on March 15 at www.SJGOLF.org. The SJGA is conducting nine tournaments this summer, available to NJSGA members who pay a membership fee of $25 to the SJGA, plus tournament fees.
While the SJGA has existed since 1946, it has only been since the collaboration with the NJSGA that golfers from central and northern parts of New Jersey can play in SJGA events, ideal for stay-and-play mini-vacations. Over the past few years, participants in SJGA events have come from Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Union and Monmouth counties.
Winners of SJGA championship have included Mike Nuzzo of Hendricks Field (First Flight) and Dave Tricker of Golf Club of New Jersey (Pre-Senior Flight) in the SJGA Senior/Pre-Senior Championship at Deerwood; Dee Pasternick of Princeton in the SJGA Women’s Mid-Amateur; Christie Pasternick of Princeton in the Cherwien Cup, and Henry Garcia of Galloping Hill and Dan Joseph of Mercer Oaks in the SJGA Team Championship.
“It has been a pleasure getting to know the players coming from the northern counties. It has increased competition in our events, both in the number of participants and level of competition. The enthusiasm that I have witnessed and feedback we have received makes me think we are moving in the right direction,” said Gail Reilly, SJGA president.
As part of the collaborative effort, each website (NJSGA.org and SJGOLF.org) will link to the other, allowing access for membership opportunities and tournament participation.
“The South Jersey Golf Association has had a presence in the southern part of the state since 1946 and it feels right that the NJSGA now plays a role in supporting their events by creating awareness throughout the New Jersey golf community,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Member Benefit Services.
“The SJGA plays a very important role in the spirit of the game, in the competitive and the social aspect of golf. The people there love golf. It all funnels to the good of the game and growing the sport in our state. The NJSGA looks forward to continuing the relationship and moving forward in the coming years.”
The South Jersey Golf Association encompasses eight counties including Ocean, Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Cape May, Gloucester and Salem. The association includes more than 500 golfers and nearly 40 golf courses, both public and private.
