NJSGA Closes One Hole During Third Round Of Amateur Championship
Due to exposure to high winds, along with the slope of the green, the par-3, 196-yard 13th hole was deemed unplayable by the NJSGA Tournament Committee during the third round of the 72-hole NJSGA Amateur Championship on Thursday morning at Montammy Golf Club in Alpine.
All players, including those who completed the hole, and those who had not yet played the hole, were given a par. The only golfer affected negatively was Chris Gotterup of Rumson, who had birdied the hole.
“The committee made a determination that Hole No. 13 be taken out of play for the remainder of the third round,” said Eric Houseknecht, chairman of the NJSGA Tournament Committee. “Our plan for the afternoon’s final round is to move the hole to the one area of the green that is not affected by the winds.
“We will monitor the situation, but at this point, it looks like it will be playable for the final round,” he said.
Houseknecht noted that a similar situation occurred at a recent New York City Amateur. He also said that high winds on the 11thgreen at last year’s British Open at St. Andrews resulted in suspended play.
