NJSGA Awards 2016-17 Turfgrass Scholarships
Three Rutgers University Turfgrass Science students were awarded the NJSGA Dr. Ralph Engle Turfgrass Scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. The students were awarded the academic awards on November 16 at the 27th Annual Turfgrass Student Awards Dinner at the Cook Student Center.
This year's recipients are Elizabeth Holmes, Meaghan Wells, and James Surico.
This scholarship is awarded annually to agronomy students at Rutgers University, who are selected by a faculty committee. The scholarships range from $1,000-$3,000.
Dr. Engle was an icon in turfgrass studies and research at Rutgers. He developed patented turfgrass and served as a mentor to both peers and students. He served the NJSGA as industry advisor for three decades, offering competent input on turfgrass problems incurred by our member clubs.
"I have almost completed my bachelor's degree and soon hope to be working in the turf industry," Elizabeth Holmes reports. "One day, I hope to help another as the NJSGA Caddie Scholarship program has helped me."
