Leading the NJSGA team as co-captains are 2009 Co-Players of the Year Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge and Michael Deo of High Bridge Hills, the reigning NJSGA Amateur champion. Rounding out the twelve player squad are: two-time NJSGA Open Champion Brian Komline of High Bridge Hills; three-time Mid-Amateur Champion and 2008 Amateur Champion Tom Gramigna of Tavistock; past NJSGA Mid-Amateur Champion, Amateur Champion, and Senior Amateur Champion Allan Small of Fairmount; 2009 Mid-Amateur Champion Anthony Scelba of High Bridge Hills; Ron Vannelli of Metuchen; Peter Barron of Stone Harbor; Michael Stamberger of Spring Lake; Gregg Angelillo of Montclair; Merv Smith of High Mountain; and Matthew Finger of Darlington.
Both the NJSGA and GAP teams compete simultaneously in individual and four-ball matches. A total of 18 points are awarded in the matches; the winner is the team with the highest point total. The NJSGA defeated the GAP 13.5 – 4.5 last year at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ.
The Compher Cup is named after former NJSGA President Fred Compher, who served in 1958-1959. The idea was conceived to promote friendly competition between the two regional golf associations, and began with the first matches held at Hollywood in 1962. The GAP leads the all-time series 31-12-4.
