N.j.'s Morgan Hoffmann Gears Up For Another Fedex Cup Run
Like he did last year, Morgan Hoffman, a native of Franklin Lakes, N.J., is ready to make a push in the FedExCup Playoffs.
The playoffs begin next week, August 26-30, with The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J.
In 2014, Hoffmann became the first player to advance from outside the Playoffs bubble three consecutive weeks (The Barclays, Deutsche Bank Championship and BMW Championship) to earn a spot in the TOUR Championship
A year ago, he arrived at Ridgewood Country Club for The Barclays ranked 124th in the standings, just inside the top 125 mark. Three events later he finds himself slotted at 21st and headed to the TOUR Championship at East Lake, Ga., where he finished T-27.
He ended the season with $1.6 million in earnings. For 2015, at the start of this week’s Wyndham Championship, Hoffmann stood at No. 89 in the FedExCup standings and had earned $1,022,275.
Among the highlights this year, Hoffman finished T-27 at the U.S. Open, made the cut t last week’s PGA Championship, was T-13 in early July at the Greenbriar Classic and wsas fourth at the Arnold Palmer after leading the first two days.
CURRENTLY, he is making a strong showing at the Wyndham Championship this weekend. After his first two rounds of seven-under 63 and one-over 71, Hoffman stood inside the top 15 in Greensboro, N.C.
WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERBOARD
In 2014, at The Barclays at Ridgewood Country Club, right near his hometown, he tied for ninth and shot up the FedExCup standings from 124th to 72nd. All he needed at the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Ma. the following week was a tied for 35th finish, which snuck him in the top 70 and advanced him into the BMW Championship this week at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado. At 68th in the standings, Hoffmann would need to tie for third or better to come in the top 30 and advance to the final leg of the playoffs, the TOUR Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, Ga.
After shooting a pair of 2-over-par 72s in his first two rounds, he fired an 8-under 62 on Saturday putting him at 4-under total. On Sunday, he would follow it up with a 2-under 68 for a four day total of 11-under 269 and a solo third place finish. What started as a tough third leg of the playoffs ended in triumph for Hoffmann and he stood at 21st heading into East Lake the next week for the TOUR Championship.
Not only did he play well at East Lake with a T-27, but Hoffmann also earned a spot in the 2015 Masters, U.S. Open, and British Open Championships. He finished No. 26 in the FedExCup. The 2005 NJSGA Junior Champion is making quite a name for himself on the PGA Tour and will certainly have a ton of Met Area fans rooting for him at The Barclays at Plainfield this coming week.
