N.J. Golfers Taking Part In 1st U.S. Four-ball Championship
Seven of the pairings for the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship include golfers with New Jersey ties.
Groupings and starting times have been announced for the first two rounds of the 2015 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, at the 6,981-yard, par-70 The Olympic Club (Lake Course) and the 6,761-yard, par-70 The Olympic Club (Ocean Course) in San Francisco.
Two-time and defending NJSGA Mid-Amateur champion Trevor Randolph of Franklin Lakes is paired with partner Keith Unikel of Potomoc, Md.; Mike Hyland of Medford, the 1998 NJSGA Amateur champion, is paired with Brian Gillespie of Wayne, Pa.; Sam Wallach of Randolph and Steven Zychowski of Mendham are paired as are Conor Casey of Madison and New York resident Griff Kern, a native of Summit, and Andy Latowski of Princeton is paired with his partner, Philip Bartholomew of Philadephia.
Also, Roger Hoit of Summit is paired with Austin Eaton III of Lakeville, Minn. Former Rider University teammates Grant Skyllas and Josh Krumholz, both of Reading, :Pa., are also in the field. Skyllas and Josh Krumholz fired 8-under-par 63 to earn medalist honors at the first-ever U.S. Men's Four-Ball qualifier conducted by the NJSGA at the 6,835-yard, par-71 Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell.
Randolph and Unikel and New Yorkers Sam Bernstein and Greg Shuman also qualified at Hackensack.
The NJSGA was honored to host the first qualifier for the newest USGA championship. Hackensack G.C. served as the first of 51 qualifying sites around the nation including several next spring.
The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball consists of 36 holes of stroke play on May 2 and 3, after which the 128 sides (256 players) will be reduced to the low 32 sides (64 players). There will be five rounds of match play at The Olympic Club’s Lake Course, starting May 4. The quarterfinals are slated for May 5, while the semifinals will be played the following morning. The championship is scheduled to conclude with an 18-hole final on Wednesday, May 6, starting at 4 p.m. EDT.
