Gotterup earned his way into the historic event after qualifying at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal and then advanced to final qualifying at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club, where he co-medaled in 36-hole qualifying.

"You grow up and watch that on TV, and I would say it's the one I want to win the most," Gotterup told Jimmy Roberts of Golf Channel. "It's the United States Open. It's brutal, it's tough, and it's kind of like how northeast golf is. I'm excited to get up there for sure.

The Little Silver native is coming off a historic collegiate season, winning multiple honors, including the Fred Haskins Award, the Jack Nicklaus Award, Big 12 Golfer of the Year and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. He also earned PING first-team All-America honors and finished the season as the No. 1 golfer in the country.

The 2019 New Jersey Player of the Year turned professional after the NCAA Championships and competed in this past week's RBC Canadian Open on a sponsor's exemption. He also earned sponsors exemptions into the John Deere Classic and the Travelers Championship.

Prior to transferring to Oklahoma, Gotterup spent four years at Rutgers University, where he earned 2019-20 Big Ten Player of the Year as well as the 2019-20 Big Ten Les Bolstad Award.
