New Jersey Native Marina Alex Wins LPGA's Palos Verdes Championship

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. - Marina Alex, a native of Wayne, New Jersey picked up her second victory on the LPGA Tour, earning the one-stroke win at Palos Verdes Golf Club in the Palos Verdes Championship on Sunday. 

The 2003 NJSGA Junior Girls' Champion Alex turned in a final round 5-under 66 to earn the one-stroke victory over Jin Young Ko, the No. 1 player on the LPGA Tour. 

"It's been amazing," Alex said following her victory. "Palos Verdes has been great, the community here. There were so many fans out the last few days, which is really nice to see. Everyone is rallying around us being here, which is great."

She started the day three shots back from the leader and proceeded to notch birdies on the par-3 11th and par-12th and a birdie on the 16th to give her the outright lead.

Alex now heads home to the Garden State to compete in the LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup at Upper Montclair Country Club from May 12-15. 

"I'm just going to go out and have a blast," Alex said of the of the Cognizant Founders Cup in an LPGA interview following her victory. "I'm going to have a ton of friends and family watching so I'm just going to enjoy it."
