Metedeconk National set to host 6th Ultimate Team Event

August 14, 2020 - The third time is the charm.

That is the case for the 58 two-man teams fortunate enough to take part in the 6th NJSGA Ultimate Team Event, being conducted for a third time at the spectacular and challenging Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson on Monday, August 17.

“Without question, it’s exciting to be conducting this event during these difficult times, to keep it going for a sixth straight year, and to return to Metedeconk National where it all started,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Membership Services.

“Metedeconk National has always been very supportive of the NJSGA - and we appreciate their support more so this year. Their facilities set up nicely for a safe, and socially-distant event - so everyone can be comfortable,” he added.

The sixth Ultimate Team Event (UTE) will include teams from clubs and courses around the state. It was last held at Metedeconk National in 2017; it was played at Hamilton Farm in 2018 and the Wild Turkey and Cascades courses at Crystal Springs in 2019.

The UTE is a 27-hole, two-man team, net tournament which uses three different formats for each nine-hole round: Four-Ball, Pinehurst, and Shamble. Tee times, at 10-minute intervals at the three differing nine-hole venues, begin at 8:30 a.m. Last year, 72 teams competed.

“We have limited the number of teams and people on the property to make it easier for the golfers to maintain their social distance. We have removed the social aspects of the event. Lunch is a grab-and-go barbecue of fine food, available at any time, as golfers complete one nine and move onto the next nine. This year, there is no post-golf reception or awards ceremony,” Kennedy said.

Winners will be notified by e-mail. Glassware, that will be mailed to the champions, will be on site for viewing only. The overall first-place net champions team will be notified of a special grand prize.

Golf-shop credit will be available to winners via email.  Prizes are awarded to the top three net division finishers, one top gross division finishing team, and teams with the best score in each nine-hole format.

The 2019 net champions, Lou Oberti and Kevin Fitzpatrick of Deer Run will be on hand to defend the crown they won at Wild Turkey Cascades at Crystal Springs Resort.

Follow all the scoring on Monday at NJSGA.org, and across the NJSGA’s social media platforms.
