Lu Cruises to 20th Women’s Public Links Championship
BELLEVILLE, N.J. - Grace Lu fired a 5-under par 65 on Tuesday to claim the 20th Women’s Public Links Championship at Hendricks Field Golf Course. Her impressive round tied the women’s course record.
“It feels pretty cool,” Lu said of her stellar round. “I wasn't even really thinking about the score until I was turning in my scorecard and the rules official told me I shot 31 on the front nine. I was like, really? I didn’t even know that. It showed me that I have what it takes to shoot low scores. I just can’t overthink so much and just be confident.”
Lu, heading into her sophomore year at the College of William & Mary is looking forward to taking this win into the collegiate golf season.
“I'm excited for the college season,” Lu expressed. “Last year I played ok, so this year I really want to play better and hope to shoot some of those scores.”
Lu, 19, played a blemish-free front nine highlighted by five birdies.
“Normally when I play, I have all these other thoughts going on in my head,” Lu recalled. “Today I was just very relaxed and it helped me a lot and this whole round.”
In the net division, Lynn Jewell claimed title, shooting a 3-under par 67.
