LPGA Mizuho Americas Open Heads to Liberty National in 2023
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Another LPGA event is headed to New Jersey as the Mizuho Americas Open will be played at Liberty National Golf Club in May 2023. With the addition of this event, the LPGA will visit the Garden State four times in 2023.
LPGA veteran and 2014 U.S. Women’s Open Champion Michelle Wie West will serve as host of the inaugural event.
“I'm just so honored that the first tournament that I'm ever hosting has every single element that I wanted,” Wie West expressed. “I absolutely love New York City. I love Liberty National.”
“We're very thankful that Liberty National is hosting this because to have our girls play on iconic courses, that's something that I've always been pushing for and it makes a big difference.”
The one-of-a-kind event will feature 24 of the world’s best junior golfers as the LPGA will partner with the American Junior Golf Association.
“To come up with a creative format that brings in the very best juniors in, in the, in the country really makes a huge difference in our partnership is really important,” expressed Mollie Marcoux Samaan. Being an environment in a market where we get great exposure, where else like New York City you can get this kind of exposure is awesome.”
In 2023, New Jersey will also play host to the Cognizant Founders Cup at Upper Montclair Country Club (May 10 - May 14), the ShopRite LPGA at Seaview (June 10 - June 12) and the KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club (June 21 - June 25).
Mizhuo Americas, the presenting partner of the inaugural event is committed to bringing the best golfers on one the largest stage, Liberty National.
“We wanted to do something that not only was really good for our business, but we wanted something that would showcase the values that we have in our organization,” explained Jerry Rizzieri, President & CEO of Mizuho Securities USA. “We wanted to make a difference, obviously from the business side, our financial services industry, half of the clients we interact with are women.”
The Jersey City club has played host to several top-tier events like the Northern Trust, the Presidents Cup and the Polo Golf Junior Classic among others.
