Lozito Grabs 21st Women’s Public Links Championship
JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Ava Lozito won the 21st New Jersey Women’s Public Links Championship on August 19 at Skyway Golf Course. The 21-year-old fired a 1-over par 71 to win by six strokes.
“I'm excited,” Lozito expressed. “I had fun out here today. It’s a nice course and fun to play.”
Lozito, a rising senior at Monmouth University manufactured three birdies on her round. Lozito finished as runner-up in the 19th edition of the championship.
“I started off pretty strong,” Lozito recalled. “My short game definitely saved me a lot today. My chipping was pretty good and I was able to get up and down to save myself on a couple of holes.”
Lozito’s dad, who regularly serves as her caddie in NJSGA events, helped guide her to a victory on Monday.
“It's a lot of fun to spend the day with him,” Lozito added. “It's a great time.”
In the net division, Ellie Yum of Galloping Hill Golf Course fired a 7-under par 63. She also finished second in the gross division, shooting a 7-over par 77.
