Knickerbocker Caddie Is Second Njsga-evans Scholarship Winner
The Evans Scholarship Foundation of the Western Golf Association has awarded its second NJSGA joint scholarship to Thomas Marcus of Tenafly, a caddie at Knickerbocker Country Club.
Thomas, a June graduate of Dwight-Englewood School, has caddied at Knickerbocker for three years, while maintaining a superb 3.5 GPA. Thomas has chosen to matriculate at the University of Michigan in Finance. He follows in the footsteps of our first NJSGA-Evans recipient, Sean Thornton of Green Brook Country Club, who graduated from Michigan in June of 2012.
Thomas, an extremely focused young man, played on the Dwight-Englewood JV and varsity basketball teams for four years and was a two year starter on its golf team. An honor roll student for three years, Thomas was most active in extra-curricular activities, both at his school and in his community.
He was a co-founder of the Help the Special Olympics Club, as well as a Special Olympics volunteer for four years, a Teen Friendship Club volunteer for three years, received the Tour Guide Club Award for his four year contribution, served as a Homework Doctors tutor, and served as a Tenafly Recky's Day Camp counselor.
Thomas organized and served as co-President of the D-ESPN Club, an ambitious in-school production which broadcasts Dwight-Englewood sporting events to the student body via the internet.
Thomas' selection as an Evans Scholar was made possible by the Annual NJSGA East-Coast Evans Scholars Classic, now in its 11th year, which has generated over $300,000 in funding towards this scholarship. (Register for this year's Outing at Hawke Point HERE.)
Once a dream and now a reality, these scholarships were made possible by the tenacity of our Tom Paluck, a former NJSGA President and Evans Scholar himself, at Michigan State University. The oldest and largest caddie scholarship program in the U.S., the Evans Foundation has generated over $100 million in scholarship awards to over 10,000 recipients since its inception in 1930. The NJSGA is extremely proud to be able to participate with the Western Golf Association to benefit our New Jersey caddie scholars.
