Inserra Shoots 4-under 67 in Open Qualifier at Forsgate CC
MONROE, N.J. – Amateur Brett Inserra was the lone medalist on Thursday afternoon in the 101st New Jersey State Golf Association Open qualifier at Forsgate Country Club, shooting an impressive 4-under 67. Eight players and ties qualified for the Open, which will take place at Spring Brook Country Club on July 19-21.
Due to expected severe weather throughout the afternoon in the Monroe area, the afternoon wave of the qualifier was postponed.
Inserra, of Upper Saddle River compiled seven birdies and was the only player in the field to break par.
“I drove and putted it great, that was pretty much the secret out here,” Inserra explained.
Inserra entered the clubhouse with his 67 just seconds prior to the afternoon weather delay.
“We were rushing our last three holes when it started drizzling,” said Inserra. “That actually made me play better, and I birdied the last two holes.”
Overall, scores of 1-over (72) qualified for the mid-July Championship at Spring Brook.
Those who were scheduled to play in today's afternoon wave will be reassigned to the rescheduled qualifier which will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at Forsgate. Revised starting times will be announced and forwarded by the end of business on Friday, July 2. Those who are unable to participate on July 7 are asked to advise the NJSGA by noon on Friday, July 2 and will receive a full refund.
The 16 qualifying places which were allocated to today's qualifier will be split proportionally between today's qualifier and on Wednesday, July 7.
