Housens Claim Father & Son

By Rick Jenkins

After sharing four NJSGA Father & Son victories with his father, Bob Housen now shares one with his son Chris. Together, the Manasquan River members won the 89th Father & Son Championship at Metedeconk National Golf Club on July 19th with a four under par round of 68 that featured four birdies and no blemishes on the scorecard. Second place was captured by the Tavistock team of Bob and Bobby Arthur with 71. Ryan and Billy Rose of Ridgewood Country Club followed in third place with 74.

“We’ve played in this a few times and come close, so it’s nice to finally get the win,” Chris Housen said. In 2008, the Housens also shot 68 at Shackamaxon but lost in a match of cards to Bert and Michael Kosup.

Bob Housen won four Father & Son Championships with his father, Donald, in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1984. All four were won at Forsgate, which for many years was the annual home of this event.

In the net division, Steven and Paul Altieri from Hopewell Valley took low net honors with 67 in a match of cards over Len and Leonard Turi of Woodlake and North Jersey. Third place in the net division was captured by Jim and Luke Wolklin of Stanton Ridge.

The Father & Son format is selected drive followed by alternate shot. Teams are not required to compete from the same club or course. The Championship is sponsored by McRae Capital Management, which presented each player with a framed team photo as a memento of the day.
