Havay, Diamond Claim Medalist Honors at Final 91st Four-Ball Qualifier at Oak Hill GC
MILFORD, N.J. – The pair of John Havay and Erik Diamond came out of the gate firing and never looked back on its way to an 8-under par round of 64. Havay and Diamond played bogey-free golf to go along with eight birdies on their way to the top of the leaderboard and medalist honors at Oak Hill Golf Club on Wednesday, May 3.
Twelve teams carded a 1-under par or better and will advance to compete in the 91st Four-Ball Championship at Hamilton Farm Golf Club from May 16-18 for the first major championship of the 2023 season.
“We did a good job of, if one person made bogey, the other made par or better and didn’t birdie the same holes,” Diamond said. “It means a lot to qualify. That’s why we play.”
After starting their round on the 11th tee, Havay and Diamond caught fire, making birdie on three straight holes from 12 through 14, the first of two instances where they would accomplish that feat during the day. Havay and Diamond proceeded to close out their round strong, making birdie on each of the final three holes as well.
“We work together so we’re with each other probably 10 hours each day, seven days each week from April to December.” Havay said. “We have fun out there and try not to take it too seriously. Hopefully we play well at Hamilton Farm.”
The 91st Four-Ball Championship will take place at Hamilton Farm Golf Club from May 16-18.
