Groundbreaking For $11 Million Renovation At Glen Ridge C.C.

The Glen Ridge Country Club is celebrating the groundbreaking for an $11 million project that will include a new state of the art golf and tennis pro shop and renovation of its 40,000 square foot clubhouse and pool house facilities.

The event takes place Sunday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the club at 555 Ridgewood Avenue in Glen Ridge. The event is open to all current and potential members.

Construction on both buildings is scheduled to begin December 2015 and continue throughout 2016 with no interruption to golf, tennis and pool activities. The renovations come at a time when golf clubs around the country including several in North Jersey are closing.

“We have a proud tradition since 1894 with a loyal and passionate family membership that sees the club as a complete social gathering place to enjoy a beautiful golf course, tennis courts and fitness center while also celebrating holidays and family gatherings. The total upgrade of all facilities will help us deliver added services with a wide variety of private club amenities” said Jim Kirkos, President of the Glen Ridge Country Club.

“This Transformation Master Plan will position Glen Ridge Country Club to offer the full experience of golf, tennis, health, wellness and pool activities with fabulous new dining and banquet options that will service the growing need for member business and social events.

“While many golf clubs are closing, this transformation plan makes GRCC a perfect option for seasoned golfers, tennis enthusiasts and new young families alike. Glen Ridge Country Club will offer a new invigorated private club experience.”

The brief groundbreaking ceremony will be followed by esteemed, long-time member and Olympic gold medalist (steeplechase), Horace Ashenfelter hitting the ceremonial “Last Tee” from the first hole. Inside the current clubhouse, participants can enjoy light refreshments and a gallery of renderings for the new buildings.

In addition to the private 18-hole championship golf course that was recently restored to its original design by renowned architect Willie Park Jr., Glen Ridge Country Club is appealing to family members with great food, five tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool with tiki bar, fitness center and regular family activities including camps for children throughout the season.

“We are very grateful to our members that have made this renovation possible through their dedication and commitment, and truly honored that Mr. Ashenfelter and the Mayor along with other local dignitaries are helping us celebrate this important moment in the Club’s proud history,” continues Mr. Kirkos. “We are excited about the renovations and the support we have received from our membership and the community.”
