Great Golf At Greatest Clubs In New Jersey This Summer

For dedicated lovers of golf, New Jersey is the place to be in 2015.

The golf calendar is brimming with outstanding events taking place at many of the state’s most revered courses.

From the Plainfield Country Club for the Barclays Championship (August 25-30) to Morris County Golf Club for the NJSGA Amateur Championship (June 2-4) to Baltusrol Golf Club for the Met Amateur (July 1-6), and the two inter-association matches – The Compher Cup (April 29) at Bayonne Golf Club and the Stoddard Trophy (August 13) at Essex County Country Club - the summer of 2015 will be a delight for golfers and golf fans.

The ShopRite LPGA Classic returns to the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club, Bay Course, featuring the top women professionals.

The jam-packed schedule for the New Jersey State Golf Association will include courses throughout the state. The NJSGA conducts 24 championships, - and four USGA sectional qualifiers. All of these state events are open to spectators and free of charge.

COMPLETE NJSGA CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

The NJSGA offers 11 Member Golf Days, also throughout the state. The NJSGA will also conduct its first Ultimate Team Event for twosomes representing member clubs, on August 31, at Metedeconk National G.C.

Besides the State Amateur at Morris County in Morristown, June 2-4, the State Open at Rockaway River C.C. in Denville takes place July 14-16, the Women’s Amateur is set for Bedens Brook Club August 3-6, and the Men’s Mid-Amateur, September 8-10, at Arcola.

The championship season begins with the Pre-Senior, May 6-7, at Hawk Pointe G.C. in Washington, followed by the NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open at Metuchen G. & C.C., which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The Girls Junior Championship takes place July 7-8 at Bella Vista C.C. in Marlboro, the Junior and Boys Championship, July 27-29, at Rumson C.C., the Senior Amateur, August 3-4, at Fairmount C.C. in Chatham, the Women’s Senior amateur, September 9-10, at Cherry Valley C.C. in Skillman, and the Men’s Four-Ball, August 10-12, at Forsgate C.C. in Monroe.

The Barclays Championship features the top 125 professionals in the sport, like Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and New Jersey’s Morgan Hoffmann, competing in the first leg of the season-ending FedEx Cup. The Donald Ross-designed Plainfield C.C. is one of the most outstanding venues in the world.

Morris County Golf Club , sight of the 114th Amateur Championship, was designed by Seth Raynor, opened in 1894 and hosted the first U.S. Women’s Open.

Baltusrol, in Springfield, will host the 2016 PGA Championship and has already been home for six U.S. Open Championships.

Bayonne, host for the Compher Cup pitting the NJSGA vs. the Golf Association of Philadelphia, opened in 2006 and ranks 137th among Golf Digest’s America’s Courses. Essex County, ranked among the Golf Digest’s Top 10 courses in New Jersey, hosts the Stoddard Trophy which pits the NJSGA vs. the Long Island Golf Association and the Westchester G.A.

The four USGA sectional qualifiers the NJSGA is conducting include the U.S. Women’s Open, June 1, at Galloway National; the U.S. Women’s amateur, July 20, at Mendham G. & T.C., U.S. Men’s Four-Ball, August 31 at Spring Brook in Morristown, and the U.S. Women’s Four-Ball, Sept. 30 at Greenacres C.C. in Lawrenceville.

The 2015 Member Golf Day Schedule includes more outstanding venues throughout the state: May 21, Glen Ridge C.C.; June 16, Rumson C.C.; June 29, Upper Montclair C.C. in Clifton; July 13, Echo Lake C.C. in Westfield; July 20, Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes; July 23, Trump National G.C. in Bedminster; July 28, Laurel Creek C.C. in Mount Laurel; August 11, Metuchen G. & C.C.; August 18, Hawk Pointe G.C., and October 6, Hidden Creek H.C. in Egg Harbor Township.

The South Jersey Golf Association Amateur Championship takes place August 11 at Galloway National.

Among the New Jersey PGA “majors” are the Match-Play Championship, May 4-6, at Canoe Brook C.C. in Summit, the Charity Clambake, June 8-10, at Hamilton Farm in Gladstone, and the NJPGA Professional Championship, Sept. 22-24, at Ridge at Back Brook.
