Glen Ridge C.C. Nears Completion Of $12 Million Renovation
The Glen Ridge Country Club is nearing completion of an almost total renovation of its clubhouse, not to mention the erection of a new pro shop for golf and tennis, and other attractive amenities.
Glen Ridge recently celebrated the opening of its brand new 200-seat restaurant and bar, as part of the second phase of a three-phase, $12 million construction project that included its new 4,500 square foot golf and tennis pro shop that is open to member year round.
The third phase of construction, the Pool House renovation and state of the art fitness center addition will be completed by summer 2017. The project is the work of Donnelly Construction of Wayne, which has renovated clubhouses at Baltusrol, Canoe Brook, Essex County, North Jersey, Fiddler’s Elbow, Winged Foot and many others. Interior design is the handiwork of Judd Brown Associates of Rhode Island.
“The project will help us attract members and frankly that is the main reason we advanced our plan. In essence we are transforming our club into a modern day family oriented club that can offer a wide variety of social, professional and recreational amenities,” said Jim Kirkos, president of the Glen Ridge C.C. “We know the market we are in. It’s very competitive in North Jersey. And we also know what our members want. We want prospective members to look at Glen Ridge Country club and say it is a great value.”
The new clubhouse to be completed in March of 2017 features a 280-seat ballroom adjacent to a wraparound covered balcony that overlooks the impeccably manicured golf course as well as panoramic views of the New York City skyline. It overhangs a new patio level seating and dining area connected to the new restaurant and indoor/outdoor bar.
“Our membership drive is attracting everyone from families with young kids to seasoned golfers,” Kirkos said. “Our blend of the 122 years of history combined with the new amenities we are building into our facilities have enticed more 65 new families to join, a remarkable number despite the downward trend at many clubs throughout the country. We are convinced that our Master Plan presenting a variety of recreational and social amenities, combined with a diverse and welcoming membership is why we are experiencing our growth.”
The pro shop building has a patio with food and refreshment services and overlooks five tennis courts. Inside the building is a technology driven indoor/outdoor, all-season golf training facility with ball flight monitors and virtual golf among other features.
Dining options also include a grill service at the new Halfway House between the 9th and 10th holes that can be enjoyed on a new patio overlooking a lake, a newly expanded Tiki Bar by the poolside, and a Snack Bar offering fast, kid-friendly food and beverage.
The renovations follow the recent restoration of the private 18-hole championship golf course that was design by renowned architect Willie Park Jr. The Glen Ridge Country Club offers tennis, swimming, fitness, children’s camps and other family activities.
